How Facebook Apps Influenced Entrepreneurship

 An interesting article ran in the NYT this weekend that traces the advent of the lean start-up movement to Stanford’s fall 2007 “Facebook Class.” 

While Facebook has since erected hurdles that make it more difficult for entrepreneurs to strike gold by developing simple apps for the social networking site, the lean start-up model pioneered by the Facebook Class persists and has upturned the tech establishment.  Lean start-ups are characterized by their emphasis on keeping it simple, rapidly prototyping ideas and perfecting them later, keeping costs low by utilizing open-source software and cloud services, and quickly bringing in revenue via ad networks.
